Nurit Bar-Shai

Nurit Bar-Shai is an interdisciplinary artist who works at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Working with biological systems, Bar-Shai conducts experiments through creative collaborative inquiries and addresses communication systems, social networks,  soft-genetic manipulation and biomaterial fabrication.  As an educator and a curator of public Art-Science programs at Genspace, Bar-Shai addresses the ethics and the emerging practices of Do It Yourself  biology, cross-disciplinary art-science practices, citizen-science, and access to biology.

Bar-Shai is a contributor to the Leonardo ebook: Meta-Life: Biotechnologies, Synthetic Biology, ALife and the Arts. She is the co-curator of “Cut/Paste/Grow”. Her work is featured in the book “BioDesign: Nature, Science, Creativity” published by The Museum of Modern Art.
